Photo by @amivitale. The #gharial, also known as the fish-eating #crocodile, is native to the Indian Subcontinent. Here they are bred inside #Chitwan National Park in #Nepal. The global population is estimated at fewer than 235 individuals because of habitat loss, depletion of fish resources and use of fishing nets. They once inhabited all the major river systems of the Indian Subcontinent but now limited to only 2% of their former range and are listed as critically endangered. I was able to see them during a @ナショナルジオグラフィック Wildlife Expedition we are on.
