Today in 1912: Country comedienne and owner of this straw hat, Minnie Pearl, is born.
In November 1940, a Nashville radio station gave her a single chance to perform on the "Grand Ole Opry" show, but included her bit late in the evening in case it flopped. The station received an avalanche of enthusiastic letters and she was quickly hired as a "Grand Ole Opry" regular for ten dollars a week. #comedy #TodayInHistory
