FIELD HACKS: HOW TO COIL A ROPE FOR A BACKPACK—For a quick way to pack up your climbing rope, team climber @コンラッド・アンカー recommends the mountaineer coil technique.
Step (1) Pick up the end of the rope with your left hand.
Step (2) While holding the end of the rope in your left hand still, loop it around the back of your neck and around the shoulders to meet back with where you are holding it. Repeat this until you have about 3 feet left at the other end. Remove it from your shoulders while still holding the end pieces of the rope.
Step (3) Loop an initial part of the 3 foot end section and start tying a barrel knot around it to keep the ends of the rope together at the top of the coil.
Step (4) Throw it back over your shoulder and go crush it!
