Photo by @carltonward: This #hippo gave me a scare. I was crouched in the mangroves at the edge of a brackish lagoon with the Atlantic Ocean behind me. I'd seen this guy at the far side closer to the forest and was waiting for a closer look. He had been underwater a while before erupting through the surface right in front of me. Fortunately I managed to rattle several frames through my F5 film camera before fear sent me backpedaling down the beach. It was two months later, back in Florida, before I was able to get the film processed and see this moment (thankfully in focus). #gabon #greatnature #edgeofafrica
