Today in 1808: Jefferson Davis, president of the Confederate States of America, is born. This badge was made around 1860. After serving as U.S. Secretary of War, Davis returned to the U.S. Senate. He formally withdrew from the Senate on January 21, 1861, after Mississippi seceded from the Union.
