Photo by @Cory Richards Open wings of the Arctic Tern. This little bird has the longest migration of any known animal on the planet flying roughly 44,300 miles each year from its breeding grounds in the arctic, to Antarctica and back! They can live up to 30 yrs and are fiercely territorial of their respective nests...which are made every one to three years. These two were apparently unhappy with me for unknowingly getting to close to a nest and seemed greatly relieved once I'd moved about 10 ft. on. Shot on assignment for @ナショナルジオグラフィック in Franz Josef Land #Russia, part of a #PristineSeas expedition with @Enricsala. Story to come
