Photo by @fritzphotos A two week old American #bison calf with its mother corralled for the annual "roundup" of the bison herd at #RockyMountainArsenalWildlifeRefuge in #CommerceCity, Co. just outside #Denver. The arsenal is where the U.S. Army manufactured chemical weapons in the 1940s. The manufacturing facilities were then leased to #ShellOil Co. for their production of pesticides. The EPA listed the site on the #Superfund cleanup priority list in1987. Introduction of the bison to the site in 2007 is part of the U.S. Dept. of Fish and Wildlife to return much of the land to a natural environment native to #Colorado. The #roundup is done in part to test the animals for contamination they might have gotten from living on the site.
