This Masonic snuff box and Masonic Mark medal date to the late 18th century. The fraternal order of Freemasonry was introduced in North America from Great Britain in the 1730s and had spread throughout the colonies by the time of the revolution. Freemasonry in the new nation offered its members fraternity and stability in a rapidly changing society. Bottom left: close-up of the snuff box's engraving, c. 1767.
