The Mattachine society formed in the 1950s, when being gay usually led to discrimination, social exile, and sometimes arrest. Despite the risks, its members publically advocated for homosexual men and, to a lesser extent, lesbians. This is a 1961 copy of the "Mattachine Review," currently on display in "American Stories."
