1997 all over again. Here is a photograph from the story I did for #Natgeo way back in 1997, Indonesia's Plague of Fire. The caption read: a C-130 Hercules from Wyoming Air National Guard unleashes a 3,000-gallon water barrage on a dense peat fire in southern Sumatra.
Nothing much has changed since then, except this year the fires are setting new records for smoke and haze in Singapore and Malaysia.
Yesterday a state of emergency was declared in the Malaysian state of Johor as pollution levels reached a level of 750. 300 is considered hazardous to your health. My friends report the smell of smoke everywhere, even indoors. #sumatra #indonesiafire #singaporehaze #malaysiahaze @thephotosociety @ナショナルジオグラフィック
