グッゲンハイム美術館のインスタグラム(guggenheim) - 11月30日 00時47分
Farah Al Qasimi approaches visibility and concealment ambiguously, paying keen attention to pattern and self-adornment.
Al Qasimi's photographic practice questions prevailing narratives around Arab culture and captures her subjects through sitters who are not wholly identifiable.
In this portrait, a figure in a bold-printed hijab turns away from the camera toward a mirrored compact, which reflects back to the viewer a heavily made-up eye—a gaze that is at both evasive and direct.
This work is on view in #GoingDarkGuggenheim.
