Scottie was trained by K9 Conservationists to detect large-carnivore scat in some unexpected places, and he did an A-plus job over the summer working with my Nat Geo-funded research project at the Jack and Laura Dangermond Preserve in California. We were able to identify the presence of bobcats, coyotes, bears, and mountain lions in coastal zones of California, and with Scottie’s help, we’ll also be able to figure out what the animals are eating and how to continue protecting them. @insidenatgeo
