Gagosian will present Urs Fischer’s public sculpture “Wave” at Place Vendôme in Paris next month as part of Paris+ par Art Basel. On the occasion, “Art Basel” (@artbasel) has published an interview with Fischer by Christina Catherine Martinez (@xtina_catherine). In the piece, he discusses the work, which is the sixth sculpture in his series “Big Clays."

Despite their imposing scale, these works always begin with a small piece or pieces of clay shaped in the artist’s hand. After making hundreds of such forms, Fischer selects only one to be digitally scanned and carved at an enlarged scale. Describing the process to Martinez, he says: “The works that make themselves, just work. It’s funny. It’s almost more like dance.
