From day 1, I felt a kinship with @meredithhamabrown that would continue to grow over the past two years. Mere is a filmmaker who is so special and steadfast with her vision, and executes with a beautifully focused passion and empathy. So in awe of her. Seagrass is a story that closely mirrors my family history, but further expanded my worldview to the Japanese Canadian experience during the 90’s. It’s a beautiful story of how intergenerational trauma is carried down to subsequent generations, specifically Japanese Canadians/Americans.⁣ ⁣ Not only was I able to play the role of Judith, a name my real mother shares, it was my first time being an executive producer on a film. The experience was extraordinary. We shot entirely on film, a testament to our entire phenomenal cast and crew. Our brilliant young cast including @remymarthaller @blossomnyha @hannah_bos_official taught me more than I could ever know about staying present and finding beauty in the unknown. ⁣ ⁣ I’ve found forever creative partners and friends in Meredith and @norm_li . They’re people you want to break bread with and pour your heart to. They’re people who care about making movies to move people. Love you both so much.⁣ ⁣ We are in the midst of a very important time in our industry, breaking ground in vital ways for the necessary protection and equity of creatives.
