ブルックリン美術館のインスタグラム(brooklynmuseum) - 9月7日 22時00分
It’s true what they say—the more things change, the more things stay the same.
Recently discovered by our Libraries & Archives staff, this promotional mailer from 1972 features a portrait of global art icon, Pablo Picasso, next to that of a local Sheepshead Bay artist, Gertrude Katz. Zoom in and you’ll even see neighborly shoutouts about quality culture and programming also happening at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden (@brooklynbotanic) and Brooklyn Children’s Museum (@bcmkids).
Likely sent to current and prospective Members at the time, the mailer makes the point that “one day, you’ll be sipping champagne in front of a Picasso and the works of other masters. Another day, you’ll be sipping champagne in front of a Katz and the work of other Brooklyn senior citizens.”
Visit #Pablomatic through September 24—champagne not included. You know, for conservation purposes.
