Behold the striking plumage of the Cuban Tody (Todus multicolor)! This quick-flying bird is an enthusiastic eater, spending most of the day searching for food. Its diet includes insects, fruits, and small lizards. When nesting, this species makes a home in hollow trees or carves out elaborate burrows in underground embankments that are complete with twisting, turning tunnels to throw off would-be invaders. Chambers at the end of these tunnels house the bird’s eggs. They are sealed off with a homemade glue-like substance composed of feathers, algae, and grass.
