There’s not a vacuum that could beat this dust!

The Red Sea that separates Saudi Arabia from Egypt, Sudan, and Eritrea is bounded by mountains… with one exception: the Tokar Gap. The Tokar Gap is a mile break in the Red Sea Hills and serves as a conduit for both winds and dust.

In the summer, the winds are strong and stream through the gap from the southwest, funneling dust from the Tokar Delta over the Red Sea. NASA’s Aqua satellite captured this image on June 24, 2023, as the dust traveled from the south.
