Using paint brushes and microscopes, @smithsonianpanama's Erin Dillon combed through sediment from fossilized reefs in Panama to find ancient denticles. They needed a lot, enough to fill two bathtubs, to piece together the fossil record and compare shark dandruff levels past and present. 🛁 Humans kill millions of sharks each year, disrupting ocean food chains.
