The piece is a tartly hilarious trio of one-acts about hapless couples who square off in suite 719 of the titular hotel. Real life husband-and-wife duo Broderick and Parker first starred together in the Broadway revival of the Neil Simon comedy at the Hudson Theatre in New York City, where it broke box-office records during its limited 19-week engagement, becoming the third-highest grossing play revival in Broadway history. In London, the piece will again be directed by Tony Award winner John Benjamin Hickey and it will play a strictly limited season at the Savoy Theatre from starting in January. Plaza Suite’s road to Broadway began when Hickey, an old friend of Parker and Broderick’s, asked them to do a one-night-only reading of it at New York’s Symphony Space. Afterward, Broderick says, “I remember us both thinking, God, wouldn’t it be fun to actually do a play like that?” Things snowballed from there.
