So I’m very happy to be given the opportunity to raise awareness about RSV and let you know about Sanofi’s Together Against RSV campaign. For those of you who don’t know (because I didn’t), RSV is short for Respiratory syncytial virus, and it's a common and contagious virus and causes respiratory infections in infants. Some of the types of infections that can be caused by RSV include Croup, Pneumonia and Bronchiolitis - which Alf had last Christmas and ended up in hospital with. RSV is the leading cause of LRTIs (lower respiratory tract infections) and hospitalisation in children worldwide, affecting around 90% of infants by their second birthday. Most RSV illnesses in babies are mild and clear-up on their own, however some cases can be more serious and require hospital care. Sanofi’s Together Against RSV campaign provides accurate information and helpful advice for parents about infant RSV including what can be done to help prevent infection and how to spot the signs and symptoms of RSV-related disease.
