Video by @amivitale | For Save the Rhino Day today, I'd like to celebrate Zacharia Mutai, whose deep bond with the northern white rhino has led him to be one of the species' greatest advocates. Today there are only two northern white rhinos on the planet, at Kenya's Ol Pejeta Conservancy, but thanks to the work of the @biorescue_project and the dedication of keepers like Mutai, 24 northern white rhino embryos now await implantation in surrogate rhinos. I've just launched the short film “Remembering Sudan,” which documents the incredible work of Mutai and all of the keepers who sacrifice so much to protect these precious creatures, including Sudan, the last northern white rhino male, who passed away in 2018.
