R.I.P. Kim Jung-Gi
The scene where he paints. It was like magic to see a dense world made up of only lines and solid colors appear on a blank piece of paper with no underpainting or outline.
His superb technique was so spectacular that it was akin to seeing a natural formation that transcended human knowledge, leaving no room for jealousy as a fellow artist.
I met and talked with him only once, at the 2017 Katsuhiro Otomo Tribute event. I will never forget his soft smile at that time.
I don't know the details of what happened to his still young body, but it is too inexcusable that such a talent was suddenly taken away from this world.

彼の絵を描く現場。下描きもあたりも何ひとつ取ってない真っ白な紙に、線とベタだけで成り立った濃密な世界がみるみる現れてくるその様は魔法のようだった。
その超絶テクニックは、人智を越えた大自然の造形物を目の前にした時にも似て、同業者としての嫉妬さえ感じる余地も与えない、「あきれる」という感想しか持てない壮絶なものだった。
一度だけ、2017年の大友克洋トリビュートのイベントで会って話した。その時の柔和な笑顔が忘れられない。
まだ若い彼の身体に何が起こってこうなったのか詳しくは知らないが、あれ程の才能が突然この世界から奪われてしまったのはあまりに理不尽過ぎる。
