This collection has been the most complex and challenging of all, special thanks to our atelier team, @Eric_Klarenbeek & @Maartje_Dros and @Casey_Curran Physical modification is teased through the use of 3-D printing in collaboration with Dutch designers Eric Klarenbeek & Maartje Dros. The intricate ocher colors are conjured through 3D printing, using left-over cocoa shell beans. The cocoa beans have been processed into granules and combined with glucose in order to stabilize the raw material of the cocoa. Afterward, this mixture is spun into a printable filament. The result is a fully organic biopolymer which sets an example for a fully sustainable production chain. The plantlike body embellishments are copper coated, draped, and entwined with organza, while another 3D print has been printed with ‘Materialise’, using 100% recycled ‘Bluesint’ powder with SLS technology (Selective Laser Sintering). Through the process of draping, and modifying the notion of space around the human body, we partnered with ForWeavers, using a biodegradable fabric originating from a species of banana called ‘Abaca’, native to the Philippines. Fibers are extracted from the banana plant’s stems and combined with raw silk.
