植田夢月さんのインスタグラム写真 - (植田夢月Instagram)「10/29 Via Aqua (ヴィア・アクア) / 5.8, 4P *English below ⁡ 先週末のストームの影響で、ヨセミテフォールが復活した。通常は春が水量のピークで、秋は基本的に涸れている。大量の水飛沫と轟音を吐き出す姿を拝めたのは、2016年のヨセミテツアー以来だ。総落差739mに及ぶヨセミテフォールはヨセミテ内で最も大きな滝であり、公園内の人気スポットの一つでもある。 ⁡ トポを見ると、滝のすぐ横まで行けるルートがあるではないか。このチャンスに行かないと後悔しそうと思い、急遽行ってみることにした。 ⁡ ヨセミテフォールの最上部まで繋がるハイキングトレイルを3/4ほど進んだところで道を逸れて、バンドをトラバース。人の入った跡はあまりないが、マウンテンプロジェクトの説明と親切なおじさんがくれたアプローチベータを頼りに、なんとか1P目の取り付きに到着。このアプローチから見える景色が既にすごい。 ⁡ 終了点のボルトはなく、適当にナチュラルプロテクションでピッチを切っていく。脆い箇所や砂っぽい箇所も多く、お世辞にもきれいとは言えないが、素晴らしい露出感で全部許せてしまう。 ⁡ 出発が遅かったせいもあり、最終ピッチの取り付きに着く頃には日が沈んでしまった。最後は5.7のチムニー。しょせん5.7っしょと思っていたのが間違い。中はしっかり濡れていて、約1時間の必死の格闘の末、なんとか落ちずに登りきった。 ⁡ 上部に行くほど風が強く冷たくなり、動いていないときの体感温度はマイナスに。ダウンなどは下に残置していたため、低体温症の3歩手前くらいになりながら急いで雪の残るトレイルを下った。残置した荷物まで帰ってきたときは、正直言って「生還できてよかった」みたいな気持ちだった。 ⁡ 帰り道のトレイルでは、風で巻き上がった滝の水飛沫が小雨のように降りかかり、ダウンやリュックが濡れていた。思いがけずヨセミテのワイルドな一面に出会った1日となった。 ⁡ pic1,4,5: ルートへのアプローチバンドで撮影 pic2,3: ヨセミテフォールトレイルで撮影 pic6: 最初のピッチ pic7,8: ルート中間部で撮影 pic9: 濡れチムニーに苦労した最終ピッチ pic10: ヴィア・アクアの道筋 ⁡ ⁡ Since Yosemite Falls revived due to big storm, we decided to do "Via Aqua", which passes through right next to the waterfall. Because it's very rare that the waterfall has big flow in autumn, I thought I would regret if I didn't get this chance to climb so close to the waterfall. ⁡ With the help of MTP description and approach beta advice by a kind passer-by we managed to get to the bottom of the 1st pitch. The view from the approach band was awesome. ⁡ The entire route was very natural. I mean, there were no anchor bolts, and the rock was partially brittle and sandy. Anyway, the incredible exposure made up for the defects. ⁡ The last pitch's chimney was graded 5.7, but soaking wet. It was like a nightmare that I desperately crawled in the water-flowing chimney for about 1 hour. ⁡ Still worse, the higher we climbed, the stronger and colder wind was blowing. Since we left our downjackets at the start of the route approach, "feels like" temperature was so low that we felt we were almost hypothermia. There still remained snow in the upper part of the trail. When we got back to our left downjackets we were relieved very much. ⁡ It was literally "Type Ⅱ fun".
