Meet the Pompadour Cotinga (Xipholena punicea)! Males’ deep burgundy plumage comes from carotenoid pigments in their feathers. Females, on the other hand, have gray plumage. Spot these birds in the humid forests of South America, including parts of Venezuela, Peru, and Colombia. This species is mostly frugivorous, but also munches on insects from time to time.
