An Aghor is said to be a master of spiritual power, able to cure mental and physical ailments alike. Since the 5th century B.C., the Aghor have followed the path of Shiva, the Hindu god of destruction. They believe he resides in the cremation grounds, known as shmashana. The Aghor consume human flesh for some rituals—from corpses routinely found floating in the Ganges—and immerse themselves in environments where death surrounds them as part of their daily routine.
