From images of the rural setting of his hometown of Griffin, Georgia, to stirring portraits of his neighbors in Philadelphia, he created expressive images of America. By manipulating dramatic contrasts and establishing subtle gradients of light and dark, Thrash haloes his subjects with a palpable sense of interest, even admiration.
