Before NASA's Perseverance rover lands on Mars today, there was Sojourner—which became the first wheeled vehicle to be used on any other planet when it landed on the Red Planet on July 4, 1997.

This is Sojourner’s flight spare, named Marie Curie. While Sojourner collected data and took images of Mars' surface, engineers operated Marie Curie in the same movements in a Mars-like test area at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in California.

The Marie Curie rover joined our @airandspacemuseum collection in 2015. #CountdownToMars
