It is the grandest festival in Tibet with a history going back to 1409. In normal times, thousands of monks, pilgrims and nomads converge at temples and monasteries throughout the country to rejoice, make offerings and celebrate the life of Buddha. For the monks at Labrang Monastery, the largest Tibetan Monastery outside of Lhasa, it’s a very special time when they all come together for praying, debating and performing religious rituals.
