Not everyone got recognition for their work - for example Mary Beatrice Davidson Kenner who invented the sanitary belt which would lead to the innovation of today's menstrual pads. After she saved enough money to get her first patent, the company that initially showed interest in her product rejected it after they discovered she was African American.
