#AliceNeel is often considered the greatest portraitist of the twentieth century. Born #onthisday in Merion Square, Pennsylvania, Neel studied fine art at the Philadelphia School of Design for Women (now known as @moorecollegeart) before living and working in Havana, Cuba, and then New York City. Her provocative portraits are defined by their honesty and compassionate connection to the emotional state of the sitter.
