Photo by Daniella Zalcman @dzalcman / If you tuned into the U.S. presidential Inauguration yesterday, you would have heard Amanda Gorman read "The Hill We Climb," at 22 the youngest inaugural poet in American history. This portrait is from 2017, when she was named the first ever National Youth Poet Laureate. "Somehow we’ve weathered and witnessed a nation that isn’t broken, but simply unfinished," her poem reads. "We, the successors of a country and a time, where a skinny black girl descended from slaves and raised by a single mother can dream of becoming president only to find herself reciting for one."
