My mission is to provide “everything you need to know to get outside and have fun!” As an Alberta Parks Ambassador for several years, and CBC Radio Alberta Road Trips Columnist (2017-2019), I have explored our beautiful province extensively and continue to discover new gems. Although I’ve had a lifelong love affair with the mountains, I’ve come to appreciate all of Alberta’s landscapes. From badlands and boreal forest, to lake country and glaciers, Alberta’s scenery is more diverse than most would imagine. I feel extremely lucky to live in such an amazing place. Over the past year, we’ve been exploring closer to home than usual, and been more mindful of our surroundings. We’ve been learning about birds, wilderness survival, and edible plants while exploring new-to-us trails and parks. Time outdoors is always a welcome break from the computer screen! As we work and study from home, the need for nature is greater than ever. Not only is it good for your body; it also soothes the soul. I experienced the healing power of nature after the loss of my husband in 2019. Although it was difficult sometimes, I forced myself to keep getting outside every day. Whether it was the change of scenery, fresh air, or paying attention to my breathing, being outside made me stronger and better able to cope with grief and stress. When you make outdoor time and physical activity a daily habit, no matter the weather, it becomes just that - a habit. Just because you’re exploring close to home, however, doesn’t mean every outing should be the same! On your next adventure - big or small - I encourage you to see the world through the eyes of a child; curious eyes that see magic all around. Take the “secret” path, look for pixies in the forest (perhaps you’ll see critters you never noticed before), and slide down that snowbank. Observe how favourite trails and parks change with seasons, breathe deeply, and look inwards. How does being outside make you feel? #CanadaNice #ForGlowingHearts #ExploreCanada 📷: @playoutsidegal 📍: @travelalberta」1月21日 3時10分 - explorecanada
