When I walked to Laya on assignment for @natgeo, it took 28 days to get there. In recent years, the government has constructed a road connecting Laya to nearby towns, which has shortened the walking distance over difficult terrain for the Layap to stock up on goods for the winter. Layap women traditionally wear woven hats like the one pictured here, but dwindling weavers have led to concerns over their decline.
