Definitely not a celebration. But a day to recognize such a remarkable path which our predecessors have paved and to reconfirm again our determination to tackle this difficulty.

UNHCR（国連難民高等弁務官事務所）は、１９５０年１２月１４日今から７０年前に国連総会の決議によって設立され、それから長きに渡り紛争や迫害により故郷を追われた人たちの生活をサポートし続けてきました。

現在、およそ８０００万人を超える人たちが住むところを追われ、今もなおその数は増え続けていると言われています。

UNHCR の設立記念日は、決して”お祝い”ではありません。これまで難民救済の道のりを築いてきた先人たちへの敬意を表すると共に、改めて初心にかえりこの問題に向き合っていく決心を固めなおす日でもあります。

UNHCR は、世界から強制移動がなくなり、この活動が必要でなくなるその時まで世界中のリーダー、そしてサポーターの皆さんと共にこの困難に立ち向かい続けます。

Today we mark our #UNHCR70 anniversary. But this is no time to celebrate.

We’re proud to serve refugees, internally displaced and stateless people every day. But the day when we’ve found solutions for each of them cannot come soon enough.

7 decades ago, we were officially first charged with helping to protect refugees.

Since that moment, the number of forcibly displaced people has only risen. Now 1% of the entire world has been driven from their homes. As the numbers rise, we will continue to rise to the occasion.
