Photo by @erintrieb / Abu Tiba, an Iraqi tuk-tuk driver, in Tahrir Square, Baghdad, November 2019. Tuk-tuks have been a major form of transportation in Asia for decades, but only recently gained popularity in Iraq. Hundreds of tuk-tuk drivers used their personal vehicles to transport injured protestors away from Baghdad’s front lines during last year’s uprising. Tuk-tuks are now seen as a symbol of revolution. Pictured here, Tiba's tuk-tuk is armored with blankets, chicken wire, and sheet metal for protection against clashes between protestors and the Iraqi military.
