Photo by George Steinmetz @geosteinmetz / Graves of the ancients are aligned with the setting sun near Stonehenge, England. These bowl-shaped mounds typically mark the burial place of a single important or wealthy individual from the Bronze Age some 4,000 years ago. These mounds, known as the Normanton Down barrow group, are located within sight of Stonehenge. They are among hundreds of other earthen monuments and ancient cemeteries that ring the famous standing stones over several miles of countryside. Such places make me wonder what we will leave behind when we are the ancients and how our age will be perceived thousands of years from now.
