The sculpture Speak to Me In Your Way So That I Can Hear You highlights how Jeffrey Gibson (@jeffrune) often brings a range of materials and inspirations together within a single work. The body of the sculpture combines found or repurposed objects—like driftwood, wool, and canvas—with a ceramic piece inspired by Mississippian head pots. Other elements reference Indigenous art and fashion, such as the glass beadwork, nylon fringe, and metal jingles that cascade down its back and sides. In combining materials sourced from around the world, Gibson notes that he is not doing anything new, emphasizing, "Native people have always been global."⠀

In observance of #NativeAmericanHeritageMonth, this November we’ll be exploring the themes of the exhibition When Fire Is Applied to a Stone It Cracks, with commentary from both Jeffrey Gibson and historian Dr. Christian Ayne Crouch. #JeffreyGibsonBKM⠀
