Photo by Luján Agusti @lujanag / Eunice Li stands in her fish shop at a trade fair in Hong Kong. In some countries an open-air food market is called a wet market. The name comes from the routine of wetting and cleaning the floors with water. Wet markets usually have butcher and fish shops, unlike dry markets that sell products like electronics and textiles. Although these markets have been heavily criticized, especially since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, live animals are not necessarily sold. The markets are characteristic of Hong Kong, where there is a crossing of Eastern and Western cultures.
