Standing forward folds make it easier to feel the deep inner work of your pelvic floor. Stabilizing your legs and allowing your torso to drape over your thighs encourages you to naturally draw in your lower belly. The key to entering forward folds is to place your attention on your inner body and let go of the need to force your body into a form. It’s not about the size or shape of your body; the practice is an experience of subtlety in the space underneath your skin, in the region I refer to as the inner body. So, while most forward folds suggest that you draw inward and discover the empty space of your pelvis, this has nothing to do with the size of your lower belly. Instead, it’s about developing aliveness in the network of muscles and flesh in the region underneath your navel and in the center of your pelvis.
