Here are just a few of our favourite wild friends:⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ 🐻 With three different species it’s no wonder bears are such an iconic animal in Canada. Polar, grizzly (brown) and black bears can be spotted all over the country. The Kermode (spirit) bear, a subspecies of the black bear, can only be found in the Great Bear Rainforest on British Columbia’s north and central coast. The Kitasoo/Xai’xais First Nation share their traditional territory with these magnificent creatures and view the bears as sacred.⁠⠀ ❤️ Bison are the largest land mammal in North America and almost became extinct in the 1850s. However, their numbers are now recovering thanks to conservation efforts, with plans to reintroduce more in our national parks.⁠⠀ 🐋 From humpbacks to blue whales to belugas to orcas, Canada is the perfect place to spot these beautiful creatures. ⁠⠀ 💛 Did you know there are over six million beavers in Canada!? These cute little critters were given official status as an emblem of Canada in 1975. ⁠⠀ 🦌 Weighing up to 1,543lb, the moose is the largest living species in the deer family! Their name originates from the Algonquin word ‘moz’ or ‘mons’, meaning ‘eater of twigs’ and they eat up to 10,000 calories of vegetation every day!⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ How many of these animals have you seen out in nature?
