Officially, it is Building 2 or UTS Central. Since its construction it has effectively become the icon of the university to such an extent that people question whether or not you actually go to the university based on whether you've taken a picture of the building (and this staircase in particular). I took a long time to get round to photographing it, but once I got my hands on the 14-30mm wide angle for the Z 7, I thought the natural thing to do would be to try it out capturing an architectural marvel. I got to class half an hour early to wander around the building and get all of the most interesting angles I could find. This staircase was easily the highlight. It's design is meant to be reminiscent of the DNA double helix, which certainly captures my imagination, as I have studied science at another university. When the light comes through the window in the late afternoon it lights up the incredibly clean whites on the underside of the staircase, so looking upwards (the direction this photo was taken) reveals marvellous contrast, which highlights the design qualities.
