Who’s this prehistoric-looking critter? It’s the Galápagos marine iguana (Amblyrhynchus cristatus)—the only marine lizard in the world! It feeds almost exclusively on algae. With no mammalian predators, this species is well-situated in the shallow reefs and rocky coastline of the Galápagos Islands. Its adaptations include a flattened tail to aid it in swimming and long claws that help it hang onto seaside rocks 🌊
