Narai-juku
(Shiojiri City)

The Nakasendo Road was built during the Edo Period to connect Kyoto and Edo cities.

Narai-juku sits halfway along the Nakasendo and is one of its 69 post-towns. These towns offered food and accommodation to travelers during their long journeys.

Even now vestiges of the Edo Period clearly remain here. You can walk along its street of wooden inns and shops and experience the Japan of another era.
