With nothing to do while in treatment I decided to go for a run. I had played football and rowed crew in highschool but I had never been a runner. I ran a 2-mile loop by my house in Queens and limped for days until the next run. Two weeks in, rehab lost my interest and the West Coast caught it. A cross-country move came with one final drug and alcohol fueled go. I worked at 2 restaurants and got arrested twice within that year, but I did get my distance up to 10 miles before my knees told me to stop. In 2008 I moved to Portland, Oregon and a year later I finally got sober. I was ready to commit to a new life and I jumped in. I started training for my first marathon right after running my first half. The first time I saw someone running in HOKA shoes was at a race in Washington and I was pretty sure their feet felt better than mine. Years later, 50k to 50 milers, and many mountains climbed, HOKA has been there. From the Columbia River Gorge to the Grand Canyon to the streets of NYC, HOKA has been there. For me, running is the best metaphor for life - standing up on your own two feet, placing one foot in front of the other and going wherever you want to go. It requires great effort, it is oftentimes extremely hard, you sweat, you bleed, you get sore, you get injured, you cry, you get stronger. But if we decide who we want to be and believe in ourselves, if we understand how deep we have to dig sometimes, deeper than we could ever think - we will always find the courage to keep up at the race of life." - Gregory Gourdet (@gg30000) #HumansOfHOKA #TimeToFly 📸 @trailjunkiephotos」10月7日 0時25分 - hoka
