D.C. educator and physician Wilson Bruce Evans was born in Oberlin, Ohio in 1866 to an African American abolitionist family. He received his medical degree from Howard University in 1891 before dedicating his career to education like his sisters, Anna Evans Murray and Mary P. Evans Wilson.
Evans was a teacher in Burrville County Schools, principal of the Lucretia Mott School, and Director of Evening Schools in Washington, D.C. He was also an organizer and the first principal of Armstrong Manual Training School, which started as a vocational high school for African American youth in the city.
This photograph of Evans is from our @smithsonianacm.
