It’s probably safe to say that every Hawaii business has been affected by this global pandemic. Zippy’s is not immune. This afternoon, we were informed that a non-customer contact employee at our Kapolei location tested positive for COVID-19. The employee last worked on Saturday, September 19th. Upon returning home from work that same day, our employee’s spouse informed our employee that the spouse was being compelled to take a COVID-19 test because of an incident elsewhere. It is Zippy’s protocol that if a household member is compelled to take a COVID-19 test, and they are awaiting results, our employee is not allowed to report to work until a negative result is obtained. Alas, the household member tested positive, so our employee was also required to take a COVID test, which returned “positive” as well. A heightened level of cleaning was instituted at the Kapolei location immediately upon learning of the spouse’s positive test, and an even deeper cleaning of front and back of house occurred that same evening after the close of business. We wish our affected employee, and their household member, a swift recovery.
