This week, Harlow started in-person days at her new school. They’re doing half days with half the class (four kids) to get everyone acclimated to the new protocols. We’ve got a new morning routine where she scoots to school and I run there and back. Mike and I really agonized over the decision to switch schools and send her here, but I have to say, I already feel so good about it. The teachers are warm and animated (even through their masks), the administration has been transparent and on top of everything and most importantly, I can already tell that Harlow loves it, even if she hasn’t admitted it yet. You guys know that we have struggled with separation anxiety at drop-off ever since Harlow was in preschool, so to see her walk up to a stranger, get her temperature taken and then head inside a strange building on her own with her mask, backpack and scooter is really quite something. This is my first time not accompanying her to class. And definitely my first time sending her somewhere that I’ve never even been inside. But at pick-up, so far, she has emerged safe and smiling. One reason I was so sad about Harlow leaving her old school was because she would no longer be in the same school as Mazzy. It felt like we were all part of one big community there. But there is something special about giving Harlow a space of her own to learn and grow too.
