Frankie update! This is her first visit to the Tompkins Square dog park. We thought she’d be so excited to make other dog friends but she spent the whole time clinging to a park bench 😂 Once we put her leash back on and walked out of the park, she was sniffing every dog butt she could find like usual. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Also, funny story. A lot of people have been suggesting a retractable leash to help with Frankie’s problem of careening back and forth across the sidewalk to every little sight and smell, and then getting the leash tangled underneath her legs. We already tried one. Frankie is terrified of it. I think she didn’t like the retracting sound, but I kept using it, thinking she would get used to it. Then, one day at the house, I had just clipped it on and she ran away abruptly. I tried to hang on but she was so fast, it fell out of my hands onto the ground and then retracted, which meant it basically hurtled toward her at the speed of light, making a horrific plastic against gravel sound. Frankie (now even more terrified) tried to out run it, but of course the leash retracted right to her collar and followed closely behind her (along with the horrible noise) wherever she ran. Let’s just say, it was a very dramatic three minutes in which all Frankie’s retractable leash fears came true. Now whenever she sees it, she runs immediately into her crate and won’t come out. So. We will just hold her current leash shorter! On a more positive note, Frankie spent five days in the city and only had one minor accident on her first day. I think we actually trained her! Just in time to save my new rugs. Phew.
