Kaden Settle evacuated from Estacada, Ore., to the Clackamas Town Center shopping mall, which was converted into an evacuation center, on Sept. 10. "It's been really difficult and scary," says photographer Will Matsuda, of the wildfires in Oregon. "I think for me, because I grew up here and remember the summers 20 years ago, this didn't used to happen. It happened every once in a while, but now it's every summer. And this is obviously the worst one yet. And that trend, to me, is absolutely terrifying." He adds: "There needs to be such a bigger change in our relationship with the environment, our consumption patterns, the way our economy is structured, if we're going to make this not happen every year."
